Scholarship Fund Honors Retired Weinberg Theater Manager

FREDERICK, MD – Dec. 20, 2024: The John Healey Scholarship Fund was established by the trustees of the Weinberg Center for the Arts, Inc. to provide scholarships to Frederick County residents who are pursuing a degree in the performing arts. This becomes one of more than 818 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.

The fund honors John Healey, who served as the executive theater manager at the Weinberg until his retirement in September 2023. During his 17-year tenure, John revitalized the struggling theater, bringing stability and vision to the organization and setting the stage for its remarkable growth and success. Under his leadership, the theater launched the Tivoli Discovery Series, a program allowing patrons to “pay what they want” to attend performances by emerging artists. John was dedicated to making the arts accessible and affordable for all residents of Frederick County.

“John presented diverse and affordable programming aimed at serving the entire Frederick community,” said Clark Snow, vice president of Weinberg Center for the Arts, Inc. “And in the spirit of John, we intend to support artists regardless of gender, race or ethnicity.”

The scholarship will support performers as well as “behind the scenes” artists, including stage managers, lighting and sound engineers, technical directors, and those in marketing and development roles. This scholarship will be awarded through the Community Foundation’s general scholarship application process that typically takes place in the spring.
