Founded by William H. and Carolyn R. Koontz for Frederick County residents pursuing a degree in education.
To honor a life devoted to education, The Becky Koontz Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by William H. and Carolyn R. Koontz, Becky’s brother and sister-in-law. A career educator and administrator, Becky spent her entire career in Frederick County Public Schools teaching English at Walkersville and Catoctin High Schools. She was the Assistant Principal at Brunswick High School, and Assistant Principal and then Principal at Walkersville High School. Her final career position was Director of High Schools for Frederick County Public Schools. “We wanted to honor Becky’s memory,” said Mr. and Mrs. Koontz. “Becky was educated in Frederick County Public Schools, and dedicated her career to teaching and mentoring Frederick County students. We wanted to honor her life and her work by helping students who wish to pursue a post-secondary degree in education.”
