Founded with a bequest from husband Frank G. Stoner for McDaniel College students.
Frank L. Stoner was born June 13, 1864 in Frederick, where he was raised and educated. He was a locally trained lawyer, who was admitted to the local bar association in 1885. That same year, Mr. Stoner was nominated and elected by the Democratic Party to the House of Delegates from Frederick County. He was not only a lawyer and delegate but also involved with several local banks: President of Farmers & Mechanics National Bank for 15 years, President of First National Bank of Mount Airy and Director of Woodsboro Savings Bank. Mr. Stoner’s wife Florence preceded him in death, and in his will he established The Florence E. Stoner Scholarship Fund in her memory to award scholarships to McDaniel College. Though he was well known throughout the community, Mr. Stoner created a lasting legacy in his wife’s name.
