Founded by the Houses’ heirs for Middletown High School graduates studying agriculture or a related field.
In 1942, J. Wilmer “Pete” and Margaret Holter House bought a dairy farm on Valley View Road in Middletown. The Houses had no children of their own but always opened their home to their nieces and nephews, teaching them on the farm. In memory of the generosity of the Houses, their nieces and nephews established The J. Wilmer “Pete” and Margaret Holter House Memorial Scholarship Fund to award scholarships to Frederick County residents who graduate from Middletown High School, seeking to further his or her education in agriculture, animal husbandry or a related field. As Middletown-based farmers, this scholarship fund honors and furthers the legacy of Mr. and Mrs. House.
