Founded by parents Francis E. and Edwina L. Harrison for Frederick County residents, with preference to Linganore High School graduates with learning disabilities or attending a trade or technical school.
A graduate of Linganore High School, John Franklin Harrison had a love for mechanics and aeronautics. Flying was a passion of his. He had a high IQ, but struggled in school because of a learning disability caused by a brain tumor. He had a wonderful personality and his life touched many. His tragic death in a flight accident motivated his family to establish The John Franklin Harrison Memorial Scholarship Fund. This Fund honors his memory by awarding scholarships to Linganore High School graduates planning to continue their education in a trade or technical school with special preference given to those who have learning disabilities.
