Sgt. David J. Smith Veterans Relief Fund

Founded by family members to support temporary assistance to veterans in Frederick County.

This fund was established in memory of Sgt. David James Smith 11 years after his death in Afghanistan and 10 years after establishing the Sgt. David J. Smith Memorial Golf Tournament. In the spirit of who David was, the fund supports emergency relief assistance for Frederick County veterans. Frederick is the city David loved, along with his service to the Marine Corps. It is fitting to give back to the men and women of this county who willingly gave of themselves for us.

Turning Tragedy Into Good, part 2

On this Veterans Day, we pause to honor and remember all the brave men and women who have served in the United States military. Frederick County has lost numerous warriors. Their selflessness has created legacies when they were much too young to have one but earned it through the ultimate sacrifice of giving their life for their country.

Taking Care of Our Veterans

This week, we observe a day in honor of our military veterans of all ages who have served our country in various conflicts worldwide. Our veterans have fought for freedom at home and abroad and risked their lives daily so that others could live more peacefully.

Memorial Day: Local Families Honor Fallen Heroes Through Giving

One week from today is Memorial Day, a national holiday to honor those who have died while serving in the U.S. military. Sadly, Frederick County has felt the loss of too many service members who did not return from the front lines. Some of those families have turned to the Community Foundation to help them honor their fallen family member.
