FREDERICK, MD – October 8, 2020: During its recent FY2021 strategic grantmaking cycle, The Community Foundation of Frederick County provided more than $460,000 to 26 area nonprofits dedicated to improving lives and enhancing Frederick County. These grants focus on the Community Foundation’s strategic grant areas of supporting families with children, preparing for a growing aging population, and responding to substance use disorder. The FY2021 strategic grant cycle is the first year that the Community Foundation is providing grants exclusively in support of these initiatives, which were determined based on the 2018 Human Needs Assessment.

FREDERICK, MD – October 6, 2020: The Dwight and Serene Q. Collmus Family Fund has been established with The Community Foundation of Frederick County and becomes one of its more than 740 component funds.

FREDERICK, MD – October 1, 2020: The Melvin E. and Esther E. Filler Fund has been established with The Community Foundation of Frederick County and becomes one of its more than 740 component funds.

Gregory Joseph Troy was committed to pursuing a career in law enforcement when he became ill and was diagnosed with stage four cancer. He passed away at age 30, but his memory is honored permanently with The Community Foundation of Frederick County with a fund in his name to support students pursuing careers in police work and to provide grants to support police K-9 squads.

Elizabeth “Libby” Hough Van Winkle had a strong commitment to helping children, especially those who had no one else they could depend on. Her legacy lives permanently with The Community Foundation of Frederick County to ensure that the work she did to better the lives of children will continue forever.
