Charlie Nicodemus’ Legacy Continues Through New Fund to Benefit Walkersville Youth

smiling elderly woman and manFREDERICK, MD – Oct. 18, 2023: The Charles A. Nicodemus Youth Fund has been created with The Community Foundation of Frederick County. Mr. Nicodemus passed away in 2022 at the age of 93. Affectionately known as “Charlie Nic,” he was a well-known Frederick County philanthropist, businessman, and lifelong resident of Walkersville.

Established through The Charles A. Nicodemus Trust, the fund continues Charlie’s legacy of giving by awarding grants to nonprofit organizations that offer youth programs in Walkersville.

Charlie Nicodemus was a founding donor of the Community Foundation and was the only person to serve as chair of the board of trustees for two consecutive years. His dedication to the establishment of the Community Foundation as a charitable partner for the Frederick County community was commendable and unwavering.  He was a prolific volunteer, serving as a Rotary Club member for more than 58 years and a board member for organizations including Hood College, Frederick Mutual Insurance Company, F&M Bank, United Way of Frederick County, and the Town of Walkersville Planning and Zoning Commission.

This becomes the fourth fund created by Charlie and his wife, Kathryn. The Charles A. and Kathryn Z. Nicodemus Scholarship Fund provides educational assistance to Walkersville High School graduating seniors attending Hood College. The Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Nicodemus Family Fund is a donor advised fund that supports a variety of charitable organizations. The Descendants of the Dr. John D. and Rebecca Nicodemus Family Fund was created by Charlie and family members to support Walkersville United Methodist Church, where the Nicodemus’ were faithful members.
