Gregory Dorsch, a 2016 graduate of Linganore High School, attended Frederick Career and Technology Center’s welding program during his junior and senior years. He said he felt fortunate to receive scholarships from The George Wesley Gilbert Memorial Scholarship Fund and The John Franklin Harrison Memorial Scholarship Fund.
“The scholarships gave me peace of mind about my finances and were instrumental in kickstarting my passion for welding into a successful and enjoyable career,” Gregory said.
Gregory graduated from Pennsylvania College of Technology in 2020 and was hired right out of college. He has been employed for four years as a manufacturing welding engineer at Evapco Inc., where he was able to continue his education to become a CWI, ACCP Level II VT inspector. He is currently working on becoming an ACCP Level III VT inspector.
“Every day is different – that’s what I love about the job,” he said.
Gregory assists with onsite inspections of welds on manufacturing products and conducts field work inspections along with visiting other Evapco facilities to provide any help needed involving welding. His attention to detail ensures the highest quality standards are met. He also trains employees and helps with the welding certification process to ensure all welders are code compliant. He also assists with manufacturing products and new product designs.
He said he knows that with hard work and growth in the company, and opportunities will come to him. Gregory plans to continue advancing at his current workplace and further develop his skills, working his way to Senior Welding Engineer.
