Part of the Community Foundation’s mission is to “connect people who care with causes that matter.” In 2013, two anonymous donors created The Saint Peter Claver Scholarship Fund to honor this saint while awarding scholarships to students who fit the essence of his life work. These donors, through the fund, are also caring for people as Saint Peter Claver did centuries ago.
The third and final installment in our conversation about the Community Foundation’s current strategic grantmaking focuses on responding to substance use disorder (SUD). As noted in our last two columns, the 2018 Frederick County Human Needs Assessment provided the data needed for the Community Foundation to realign its grantmaking priorities to support Frederick County’s most urgent needs.
The second installment in our conversation about the Community Foundation’s current strategic grantmaking focuses on supporting families with children. The key findings from the 2018 Needs Assessment included that families with children need improved access to quality childcare and out-of-school activities and supervision.
Today’s conversation is about our “Preparing for An Aging Population” strategic initiative. Some of the key findings from the 2018 Needs Assessment show that the elderly population is growing at approximately three times the rate of the overall population of Frederick County.
The Community Foundation of Frederick County just released its 35th Annual Report to the Community for fiscal year 2021. We call this report “Nothing Tops Philanthropy” because of navigating another unprecedented and challenging year only to experience that our generous supporters would prove again that giving was still of top importance.
