The 2020 Wertheimer Honorees

Each year, the Community Foundation recognizes several people from Frederick County who are selfless in their contributions of time, energy, and talents because they want to make a difference in the lives of others. We are pleased to announce the 2020 Wertheimer Fellows for Excellence in Volunteerism who will be honored on November 19, 2020, at our 34th Annual Report to the Community, which is being held virtually this year.

Honoring Gregory Joseph Troy’s Memory

Gregory Joseph Troy was committed to pursuing a career in law enforcement when he became ill and was diagnosed with stage four cancer. He passed away at age 30, but his memory is honored permanently with The Community Foundation of Frederick County with a fund in his name to support students pursuing careers in police work and to provide grants to support police K-9 squads.

John and Lucille Ponton’s Commitment to Serving Others

John and Lucille Ponton were well-known in Frederick County and were business owners for many years. They cared deeply about their community, and through two funds with The Community Foundation of Frederick County, their legacy will live on forever by supporting children with cancer and their families as well as the Community Foundation’s strategic grantmaking.
