Each year, the Community Foundation recognizes several people from Frederick County who are selfless in their contributions of time, energy, and talents because they want to make a difference in the lives of others. We are pleased to announce the 2020 Wertheimer Fellows for Excellence in Volunteerism who will be honored on November 19, 2020, at our 34th Annual Report to the Community, which is being held virtually this year.
Gregory Joseph Troy was committed to pursuing a career in law enforcement when he became ill and was diagnosed with stage four cancer. He passed away at age 30, but his memory is honored permanently with The Community Foundation of Frederick County with a fund in his name to support students pursuing careers in police work and to provide grants to support police K-9 squads.
Elizabeth “Libby” Hough Van Winkle had a strong commitment to helping children, especially those who had no one else they could depend on. Her legacy lives permanently with The Community Foundation of Frederick County to ensure that the work she did to better the lives of children will continue forever.
Margaret, U. Mehrl, and their daughter Sharon Hooper were passionate about the future of their community and education, especially providing educational support for children.
Dan Crozier was passionate about music and promoting music education. His legacy lives permanently with The Community Foundation of Frederick County, and thanks to his generosity and vision, countless Frederick County residents will benefit from a better appreciation, understanding, and enjoyment of all music types for generations to come.
