Debbie Wolfe Bradley Scholarship Fund

Founded by the Wolfe family for Walkersville High School graduates pursuing a career in the theater arts.

Debra “Debbie” Ann Wolfe Bradley’s love for life defined her. A resident of Walkersville, her interests were diverse and spoke to her dynamic personality. From mastering water gardening to cheering for her beloved Redskins to pursuing her love of music, Mrs. Bradley’s charisma radiated. One of her greatest passions was her active involvement with Walkersville High School’s Drama Club, with which she served as president and volunteered tirelessly to ensure its success. When Debbie was tragically killed in a car accident, the Bradley and Wolfe families established The Debbie Wolfe Bradley Scholarship Fund to honor Debbie’s memory, love of theater arts, and dedication to the Drama Club at Walkersville High School. Scholarships in her name are awarded to Walkersville High School graduates pursuing a career in theater arts or a related field.

Derek Matthew Angel Scholarship Fund

Founded by Jon and Lindy Angel with preference to Frederick County residents studying information technology.

Known as “Captain Fan-O,” the face-painted cheerleader for Penn State’s basketball team, and the guiding force behind web sites he created, Derek Angel was a 21-year old senior at Penn State University majoring in media studies when he passed away in July of 2004. A graduate of Walkersville High School, he worked at Clustered Spires Golf Course. He interned with the City of Frederick as the assistant webmaster and with The Community Foundation of Frederick County as the Public Relations Intern, where he demonstrated not only exceptional writing abilities, enjoying the twists of phrases, but also the information technology skills to design the framework for the next iteration of the Community Foundation’s web site. His poise, maturity, sensitivity, and love of conversation and friends set him apart. In his memory, Jon and Lindy Angel created The Derek Matthew Angel Scholarship Fund to award scholarships to students pursuing a post-secondary education, particularly those interested in studying information technology, one of Derek’s passions.

Descendants of the Dr. John D. and Rebecca Nicodemus Family Fund

Founded by the family to support Walkersville United Methodist Church.

John and Rebecca Nicodemus were devoted parents and caring individuals. Rebecca was a typical housewife, raising eight children while her husband worked as a doctor. They lived in Walkersville as involved citizens dedicated to the well being of others. John never knew how to drive so he visited his patients by horse. Some of his fees included $3 to deliver a baby, $3 for eyeglasses and $0.50 to pull teeth. Other means of payment included chickens, hams and side meat. In 1909, the Walkersville Water Company was established, and Dr. Nicodemus was chosen chairman. He lived to be 85 years old. John and Rebecca left such an impact on the lives of others that their grandchildren, Kent C. Nicodemus Jr., Nancy N. Frank, Robert N. Nicodemus Jr., and Charles A. Nicodemus, founded The Descendents of The John D. and Rebecca Nicodemus Family Fund to honor the memories of their grandparents. The Fund supports Walkersville United Methodist Church, a community of faith with which the Nicodemus family has long been involved.

Distinguished Young Women of Maryland Scholarship Fund

The fund supports the mission of the Distinguished Young Women of Maryland program, part of a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholastic achievement, leadership, and talent in young women. Scholarship recipients are college-bound high school women who participate in workshops to develop interviewing, public speaking, and other leadership skills as they pursue their educational goals.
