Donald B. Rice Memorial Scholarship Fund at Saint John’s Catholic Prep
Founded by wife Mary Rice and her children for students to attend St. John’s Catholic Prep.
Donald B. Rice was an athlete, business leader and public servant in Frederick County. In the 1940s, Mr. Rice opened Rice Tires, which began as a small rethreading business and expanded to include retail, wholesale and international sales. In the 1950s, Mr. Rice served on the Board of Aldermen and as Mayor. Mr. Rice’s wife and children established the fund in his memory. The fund provides scholarships to students to specifically attend Saint John’s Catholic Prep. Mr. Rice’s three sons had attended the school and, he credited the value of their private education as a major factor in the professional success his children went on to achieve.
Donald L. Lewis Staff Education Fund for Citizens Care & Rehabilitation Center and Montevue Assisted Living Fund
Founded by Mr. Lewis to provide scholarships to employees pursuing further nursing education.
Donald L. Lewis was a well-known businessman, politician, and community philanthropist who passed away at age 99 in early 2019. Mr. Lewis cared deeply about helping seniors and before his death created The Donald L. Lewis Staff Education Fund for Citizens Care & Rehabilitation Center and Montevue Assisted Living Fund, which helps with tuition and education expenses for facility employees to advance their training. Mr. Lewis has left a permanent legacy by creating this fund.
