Harold and Rebecca Shorb Memorial Fund

Several close relatives established The Harold and Rebecca Shorb Memorial Fund in memory of Harold and Rebecca Shorb, who devoted many years to teaching in Frederick County. Passionate about the arts and theater, their legacy lives on through this fund, which provides scholarships for Catoctin High School students pursuing degrees in Fine Arts or closely related visual arts fields.

Harold D. and Elizabeth S. Kehne Scholarship Fund

Founded by David A. Kehne and Robert A. Funk for Frederick High School or Governor Thomas Johnson High School graduates pursuing a career in education. Preference is given to students attending Towson University or University of Maryland.

The Harold D. and Elizabeth S. Kehne Scholarship Fund honors the memory of two Frederick County teachers, Harold and Elizabeth Kehne. Mrs. Kehne taught at several Frederick County schools and spent most of her career as a teacher at Rock Creek Center. Mr. Kehne taught at Middletown High School and at New Market and West Frederick Middle Schools. “My parents had strong work ethics, believing greatly in service to others and in the power of public education to help young people develop into self-sufficient citizens,” said David Kehne. “They appreciated the many opportunities they had in their work with young people. This fund honors their work and the work of their colleagues, past and present, in Frederick County.”

Harry and Mattie Cornpropst Scholarship Fund

Founded through Mrs. Cornpropst’s estate provisions for students attending Frederick Community College who are preparing for a career in public education.

The late Mattie Henderson Cornpropst made estate provisions to establish The Harry and Mattie Cornpropst Scholarship Fund, which will provide scholarships for students attending Frederick Community College who are preparing for a career in public education. Mattie, who lived to be 100 years old, moved to Frederick County after graduating from Salisbury State College (now Salisbury University). She married Harry Cornpropst and spent the remainder of her life in Frederick County. Her career as a fourth grade teacher spanned 36 years with Frederick County Public Schools, and included North Market Street School, New Market Elementary School, and Elm Street School.
