As one of the very first to turn to The Community Foundation of Frederick County to set up a charitable fund, Guy Kelly was a philanthropic man. The Community Emergency Assistance Endowment Fund was established by the Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees with a gift from Mr. Kelly for the Salvation Army’s emergency services. Through this fund, the Community Foundation was able to pay a poor family’s rent; this family was very grateful for the generous gift and thanked Mr. Kelly for making it possible for them to plan their future. Mr. Kelly and his wife, Pearl, were both active members of Calvary United Methodist Church and parents to one son, Michael G. Kelly. They created The Mr. and Mrs. Guy E. Kelly Fund as an unrestricted fund to support local charitable activities.
