Founded by niece Jane Clark Peluso to honor her dedication to music education and to support music educators through grants and/or scholarships.
Throughout her life and professional career, Mildred B. Trevvett made the world a better place by sharing her love of music with thousands of people. Her impact, particularly with the gifted and talented, was exceptional. Miss Trevvett devoted her life to music, and to educating others about its beauty. Her career in the public school system began in 1943, and the majority was spent in Frederick County at Emmitsburg and Thurmont High Schools, and then Governor Thomas Johnson High School. Miss Trevvett taught class piano, theory, and music listening and literature. She mentored gifted and talented students, and was a proponent of the arts through involvement with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Community Concert Association, the Sperry Storm Scholarship Committee, the Maryland Alliance for Arts Education, the music committee of the Frederick Arts Council, and an organizing member of the Choral Arts Society. She also shared her talents with students at Frederick Community College, and her music listening courses were a favorite with senior citizens. Miss Trevvett earned numerous awards throughout her career, including the prestigious “Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award” sponsored by The Washington Post in 1987. In 2000, she was inducted into the Maryland Music Educators Hall of Fame.
