Distinguished Young Women of Maryland Scholarship Fund

The fund supports the mission of the Distinguished Young Women of Maryland program, part of a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholastic achievement, leadership, and talent in young women. Scholarship recipients are college-bound high school women who participate in workshops to develop interviewing, public speaking, and other leadership skills as they pursue their educational goals.

District 8, Maryland Nurses Association Scholarship Fund

Founded by District 8, Maryland Nurses Association, Inc., the fund will provide scholarships to registered nurses who are enrolled part-time or full-time in an accredited nursing program, with a preference given to District 8 nurses. District 8 members, comprised of registered nurses from Washington and Frederick Counties, is affiliated with Maryland Nurses Association, a professional membership organization for registered nurses. Its primary purpose is to provide direction and a voice for the profession of nursing in Maryland.

Don and Sharon Boyer Fund

Founded by Middletown High School alumni for Frederick County Public Schools to support participation recognition materials for the Don Boyer Invitational and other track events.

Created in 2009 by the alumni of Middletown High School’s track and field and cross country programs to honor the Boyers, the fund awards grants to Frederick County Public Schools to support participation recognition materials for the Don Boyer Invitational and other track events. The Boyers have positively affected the confidence and self-esteem of many youth, and coached their teams to more than 40 state championships.

Don Doughty and Linda Moran Urban Garden Fund

Founded by Linda Moran to increase urban gardening opportunities and/or for the enhancement of public green spaces.

Throughout his life, music impresario Don Doughty believed anything was possible. His gusto for life, his enjoyment of people, and his passion for music defined him. A graduate of Peabody Institute with a Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting, he developed a widely-acclaimed choral program at Wootton High School in Rockville, founded and directed the Gaithersburg Community Chorus, directed the Hood College Choral Program, was a board member of and implemented master classes with members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and as a volunteer developed and helped to implement a sight reading program for the Frederick Children’s Chorus. He even found time in his busy life to perform at area nursing homes where he saw firsthand how music could improve the emotional wellbeing of patients.

Don’s wife, Linda, created the fund to honor their shared appreciation of music and gardening which they enjoyed as a way to bring calming and restorative balance to their lives, a joy that they wished to share with others.
